Wow..it's been over 2 months since I've blogged. My only excuse is that life has gotten in the way. I've been itching to do some writing though for the past month, it's just finding the time to sit down and do it and not be interrupted by appointments or children, or other activities. Summer has been flying by super fast. Come September both my kids will be in school and I may find some time to myself for writing, drawing and maybe some photography. It will be a welcome break. So what do I write about today? It think it's just gonna be some random thoughts.
In the near future I want to put together a mini-tutorial on how to use Gimp - the photo and graphics editor that is totally free. I may post that here or on Associated Content by the Yahoo Network. I'm also planning to research online streaming/DVD rental locations/sites and post what I learn. That will likely be the first thing I post, soon. The reason being is Netflix's new price changes. If you've been a long time customer, or recently signed up, or were thinking of doing it, I encourage you to shop around. Netflix has in my opinion just launched a perfect way to get rid of half of their customer base. I've been a member (for the 2nd time around) for over a year and prior to that for more than 2 years (I left when prices went up - came back when they came down and streaming was added). It was a good service for decent value and now they want you to pay more and 60% increase per month for the EXACT same service you already have. This comes after an increase just 8 months ago. With the 2 together the increase comes to about 80% if not higher. If you haven't heard about it, log into your account, visit the Netflix blog, or their Facebook page or google it. Their facebook page alone has over 32,000 customer complaints on this new change.
On a different note, I recently did a photo shoot for a friend and I really loved it, I'm also loving editing the photos. Photography has been something I really loved and planned to explore but in recent years it's been set aside. I feel my writing is being set back too. I'm not sure if it's time constraints, lack of interest, or just too MANY interests. I just can't make up my mind on ONE thing I want to pursue! However, one thing that has held a continued interest, that I pick back up again and again is drawing. But it's hard to make room in my life for 3 creative ventures. I can't do all 3 at once so I flip flop around...kind-of like how our politicians do. Another friend has also picked up the camera and shooting weddings. It would be so very exiting and just plain awesome if she and I found some way to start a business and make it work and do something we both love! We both are insanely busy with our family stuff...but I would feel so fulfilled to have some kind of career going. It'd be slow going and small in the beginning, surely..but that's okay. I can't say that I have never dreamed of photography as a business...I have...I dreamt up a whole photography studio life and yes I do know and understand how hard it is to get into that business, not to mention expensive. A side thing would make me so happy. Promoting myself here, visit my deviantart site to take a look at some of my work. If you're a facebook friend you have much more to look at. http://hobbyholly.deviantart.com/
My kids have been in Bible school this week and last and I can't be more thrilled when my son comes home and asks me about God and the things he's learned about. Brought up Christian, in a private school and going to church every Sunday, it's been far too long since I've attended regular Sunday services. This is something my husband and I are going to remedy. It will not only be good for our kids, but for us in our marriage as well. Now we face the task of finding a church. We are open to many, closed to many others, and willing to try several before deciding on one. It could be difficult. My husband and I are both Christian, but what that means and how we were raised is very different. We can agree on what we want from a church and what we don't want to see, so hoping we can agree on someplace.
enjoy the video below :-)
