Good Reading Reviews

I want to take today's post to tell you that sometimes I do reviews over at Goodreads.com on books I've read; so if you're ever interested in reading them you can find me there. Goodreads has been a wonderful resource for me to put into lists the books I've read or want to read. I have a nice stack of books at home waiting for me to get to them. I do not end up reviewing every book I read and I've been stuck on reading several Young Adult fantasy stories.

I reviewed the latest today though its not that in-depth. The book took me a really long time to finish...longer than usual. I am kind-of looking forward to finishing the series so I can move on to maybe a more exciting one. Below is my Goodreads review. I don't plan to re-post each review onto my blog, so please find me over there if you're interested. I have my Goodreads profile box in my sidebar on this blog. (Or click here)

Nightfall (Vampire Diaries: The Return Series #1)Nightfall by L.J. Smith

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Another breif overview here. This book took me way too long to finish. I think in part because it wasn't captivating me..it was kind-of bland. I wanted to like it and care about what was going to happen next, but when you're able to put a book down for a whole week without picking it up, there's probably an issue. That said, life has also been in my way of finding free time to read, but I know from other series that even that does not stand in the way of a good book. This series so far is just okay.

I am pretty sure that I read once from something the author said that this book wasn't her favorite either. It had been some time between the original 4 book series and the start of the new 3 book series (Nightfall being the first) and maybe she was a little rusty?? I'm not sure but this book was all over the place. At times I was confused and not knowing what was going on wondering where she was going with the stuff she was writing.

Obviously Elena is not dead..or maybe she is...I really don't know WHAT she is and neither does Elena. An Angel on Earth? I'm not sure. A lot of kooky stuff happens in this book. Spirit foxes, malach, possession, magic...there's a lot happening. Stefan is missing but you have Damon and the usual crew. You learn more about Mrs Flowers and Elena uses her new powers..whatever they are. I'm not really in love with the direction that took with giving her wings..not just one set but several? I'm a very visual person when I read and it was very hard to imagine what the author was telling me.

Elena and Damon have a lot of time together, and have some romantic sort-of moments. Elena begins to realize her deeper feelings for him but she still loves Stefan and her main goal is to find him. Damon does some pretty terrible things, even for him...but Elena learns why and she helps him regain some humanity only for it to be taken away again by a pair of what are like shape-shifters ; Werefoxes if you will.

Again, if you watch the TV series do not expect the book series to be the same...it is not even close, and it can't be more true the further you go into the series. Characters, names, locations - some of that is the same but that's about it. If you do watch the TV series, on the CW, Ian Somerholder is doing a great job at playing the role of Damon closely to how he is in the book...that's great news because his character in the books may be the most interesting. Don't mess with a good thing.
