What's in a name?

So for my first "real" post I am discussing my blog name. You may wonder about it, or you may not care at all. It's not the best title, and thinking of name for my blog was half the reason why it has taken me so long to start one. I am sure I made this so much more complicated than it needed to be, but that is after-all the nature of being me!

So, what's the meaning of "Write World, Wrong Planet"? Well, it's not very complicated, really, I swear. I love all things science-fiction, so I tried to put that into the title and theme somehow to showcase the type of person I am. I wrote down a bunch of things that came to mind, like Planet Hollyworld, no, really, that could have been the name of my blog! Hollyverse (instead of Universe) was one, Destination : Earth was another. So in my quest for choosing a title I researched my choices to make sure no one else had the same. I found some similarities and also found out that Destination : Earth is actually a band name...I had no clue.

So I went with my original title choice for these reasons; it implies sci-fi, it seems to fit how I feel about myself and others, and I used a play on words to show that I am aspiring to write for a living. So what does it mean? Well I often feel like either I, or some of those I encounter, just aren't from the same planet. My recent personal life has been filled with so much neurotic behaviors that I found myself wondering it if we all lived on the same planet, or rather were born on the same one. So the words "Wrong Planet" are to describe how I feel about my life, my surroundings, and just my place on this earth. All through my life I have felt like I didn't fit in. I'm happy with my label as different, or nerd, or geek, at least as an adult I am, as a child and teen it was harder to accept. But that is another story for another time.

So Write World is merely to describe my goals at this particular time in my life, and that is to be a writer. World in this instance is referring to the universe as a whole, but Write Universe just didn't have the same ring to it. So this will be my little place on the web where I can write in my own little world and showcase things I have written, looking to write, or working on. Like I said in my previous post this will be a place to write random thoughts and feelings, or to post articles or short stories. The stories that I would post would be things that maybe I haven't found a home for in the publishing world, or things I don't feel I will try to submit. I have not been published yet other than on the web at Associated Content, which I used as an outlet to practice article writing and to get ideas.

If you're curious about my writing goals or accomplishments to date, here are the details. I completed a course from The Institute of Children's Literature in 2008. The course provided a lot valuable information and direction, which is what I needed. I have no complaints at all about my experience. They were teaching us to submit article and fiction short stories to magazine publishers and in turn gave me insights and a place to start. I found that my niche seems to be that of writing for teen girls. Also, un-unexpectedly, I seem to enjoy writing more of the romance kind of story. I found much inspiration from my diaries as a child, teen and young adult. Stories I write have really nothing to do with my life, but the personalities or feelings of the characters stem from how I felt growing up.

I submitted a short fiction for young children to a magazine, but it was rejected. I now have to re-work it slightly to submit elsewhere. The magazine industry is tough for short story writers of fiction. If I were to write an article, I may have a better chance finding a place to submit. There are also ridiculous word limits. Teen fiction short stories, I haven't had any luck in finding a magazine who accepts them from adult writers. I currently have a teen short entered into a contest and plan to enter the same story, or even a different one into another contest happening next month. I am also currently working on a book length fiction for teen readers.

Thus concludes another post and introductions to me and my blog. From here on in it's anyone's guess what will spill out of my head and onto the screen. Gotta blog? How'd you come up with your blog name? Does it hold a special meaning for you? Share in the comments section.
